about

This song was loosely inspired by the voyage of Thor Heyerdahl and his crew aboard the Kon Tiki, by the spirit of adventure that leads us to face terrible and beautiful things in the name of truth and good and even kindness, and by people in my life who make adventure - and save the world - every day. (Remastered 11/24/16)

lyrics

KON TIKI

Look out across the deep
The sharks ply their mysterious seduction
Lash me to the rig
With the corners of your beard and whisper secrets of the
ages, laced with sly allusions to the things we have to do
to keep us warm and take us home.

We will ride the Humboldt Current
To the place where we will fight
Our evil overlords and save ourselves from harm.

Things fall apart.
The center will not hold.
Diffuse among the stars
We kiss against the cold.

He stumbles on the shore
The ocean made of traffic and confusion
Take his arm and lead
To the other side and slip your careful secrets in his
Pocket, tenuously linked to all the things we’ll have to do
To make him warm and take him home.

Where he will ride the Humboldt Current
To the place where he can fight
HIs fascist overlords and save himself from harm.

Things fall apart
The center will not hold
Diffuse among the stars
We kiss against the cold

Look out across the deep
The stars ply their mysterious seduction
Lash me to the rig
With gravity and galaxies and show me where the
Gaps are, guided by the private things we share to keep us nimble,
keep us warm, take us home

Where we will ride the Humboldt Current
To the place where we will fight
Our robot overlords and save the world from harm.

Things fall apart.
The center will not hold.
Diffuse among the stars,
We kiss against the cold.

about

Jane Brooks Seattle, Washington

I'm new to music. The ukulele is my midlife crisis. I like things simple, plain, sloppy, except of course when I don't. I miss the friends I don't get to see anymore. Sometimes these songs are for them.
